Countdown to Momentum

The countdown to momentum has begun. Momentum City Church is officially taking off soon and we’d love to take you along for the ride. But before you strap your seatbelt in, give us a chance to tell you a little more about who we are and why we are planting Momentum City.

Our story

The Barker Family

I’m Pastor Joel. Those beautiful folks you see to the left is my wonderful family. My wife, Tina and I moved moved our family of six from Chattanooga to Middle Tennessee with a vision from God to impact the city of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

We served in multiple areas of ministry at the Joyful Sound Church of God for more than a decade. We started out as youth pastors right after we were married in 2002 and I became the worship pastor in 2006—a position in which I served until 2017.

Along the way, we were blessed with four incredible boys—Zach, Elijah, Jaxon & Toby. They’re all uniquely gifted and every day is an absolute adventure.

Since moving to Murfreesboro, we have sought to become a part of our community. Our boys love their schools. We love our community. We love Murfreesboro. And we believe Murfreesboro is indeed a Momentum City.

Our Vision

God’s plan for our city is bigger than us. That’s why partnering with many of the wonderful established churches and ministries in our region is among our first priorities. Our goal is to impact this city with the message and activity of the Kingdom.

We are on a mission to create spiritual momentum in the lives of the people of Middle Tennessee. We see a movement that spreads by reaching families, schools, the marketplace, and the city of Murfreesboro with the life-changing message of the Gospel. Most of all, Momentum City is devoted to worship, community, prayer, and discipleship.

Project: Momentum

While Momentum City Church is our immediate emphasis, we see Project: Momentum bringing the body of Christ together by providing and sharing resources to better reach Middle Tennessee. Through carefully cultivating relationships with non-profits, churches, and other service organizations, we hope to build a bridge between the community and the Kingdom.

The fact is, many shy away from seeking help from a church and while some churches have the desire to reach out, they simply don’t know where to start. That’s where Project: Momentum will step in to help facilitate that assistance. We see volunteer organization, health fairs, and community advocacy programs. God’s people should be the first to serve our cities.

Please pray for our family as we launch out into the God’s dream for us and our city.
